We are using your forum on our site at www.krackedkings.com and have recently developed a problem that a few members are complaining of.
We are using the private messaging facility and all of a sudden, whenever the side popup appears to alert of a PM, the following message appears on the screen to freeze the browser. Nothing can be selected and the only way out of it is to use task manager to close the browser down and restart it.
""Quicktime 7.0 for Windows is now available. This update is recommended for all quicktime 7 users. Click update to update your software.""
Those members probably have Quicktime set up as the default player for mp3s when played in a web browser. I've noticed that Quicktime does that if you're not paying attention... best solution is to update Quicktime as the newest version has some bug fixes and a few security updates.
Quick solutions would be to either instruct them on how to change the default handler for MP3 in the browser (as opposed to on the desktop), or to remove the audio clip from the toast notification. If you're going to do one of these, I'd recommend the latter.<
Leaving aside for a moment my well-documented arguments against the embedding of any sort of audio file in a page, especially those that play automatically, it's not your responsibility if your visitors can't be bothered keeping their software up to date nor should you be dictating to them which programmes they should be using to handle particular file-types.
