There are two owners of our site and we asked our webdesigner about building a forum. He not only built a forum utilizing snitz, but he made himself the forum administrator and my partner and I have no authority now to remove him as so.

This is one of the messages I get-

There has been a problem!

Only the Forum Admin can access this page

He holds the keys to the forum. Instead of providing us the information we requested so we can have control of the forum built into our website, he played word games and now has ignored us. He is no longer our webdesigner and he has full control of the forum.

What can we do now?

Do you have the rights of scripts via ftp and he does them and your basis is it msql or Access?, If you have the right to erase made on the basis of your forum and redone with a new base of Snitz Forum unless you have a better solution.

One solution is to download the basis Access or open the file msql of your forum to change the mail from the administrator and his name then put on the forum and to resubmit an application for change of password.

Cordially,

You can get to your files right? In config.asp, line 73 change the ID to your users ID, I can't remember if that's enough or not, if you still get problems go into the database and in the members table change your member level (M_LEVEL) to 4 and his to 1

You will need to change the config.asp file to get to become the SuperAdmin. Once you do that, you will have full control of the forum. All you need is FTP access to the forum files.

I'm admitting they are already admins, so you may be right too, Jez.

one thing you should also think about is, changing the password for the database, your ex webdesigner may still have it and be able to make changes to the database or totally delete it after a while

And while you are at it, you might want to change the FTP password, and any other account information he had had.

The error message implies that your account is not an administrator's account so, before amking any of the other changes mentioned in this topic, you will need to edit your account in the database to give yourself and M_LEVEL of 3.

3? I thought that was moderators... 1 normal, 2 being the mystery number, 3 moderators and 4 admins?

Those are the values returned by the forum functions that determine member level. In the database, admins are M_LEVEL = 3. Admittedly, I haven't delved into it a whole lot, so I couldn't give you more specifics, but I know that's the way it works.

That's the mlev variable in the code (1: member; 2: post author; 3: moderator; 4: admin) - the M_LEVEL field in the database is different (1: member; 2: moderator; 3: admin).

Thanks for clearing that up, Shaggy. I knew there were different values in the code vs the database, but didn't know the significance of level 2.
