Is there a way in the Poll mod to vote for more than one person or thing?
My forum is a local political one, and one of the races going on right now is for school board, in which you vote for 3 (there are 7 running). I have searched but I don't think anyone has asked this before. |

I'm pretty sure someone has done this in the past. Check the Mod w/Code forums here. It may be in an archived post, but I believe it's there somewhere. |

Is there not an option in the poll mod itself that allows you to specify whether or not members can vote more than once?

I still can't seem to find any modification to the codes that would allow one to do this... |

My bad; never used the poll mod, but I thought I remembered helping someone out in the past when they couldn't get that option to work properly. Obviously the 13 staples in the back of my head are affecting poor Mr. Brainbox's memory!

If I remember right Davio did a check on the ip and only allowed 1 vote per IP. Maybe you can track down where he did this and make a change I am not sure where that change would be but its a start.

It works on your User loggin and cookies for non members.
(if a non member deletes there cookies it lets non members vote again) |

yes this is all fine, but I am wanting a user to be able to make more than one selection at a time. (i.e. there are 3 people running for office, you can vote for 2, which 2 will it be) |

You'd have to change the form created by the poll mod, make each poll option a different field in the form rather than than as one grouped field as it is at the moment (all of the radio buttons are called 'R1' - in your case you'd need to have the name values follow the er value... values lol), you'd also need to change the way it's added to the database in order to make sure every value is saved. The downside is that it would be difficult and time consuming, although certainly not impossible, to restrict them to a certain number of votes... for that I suppose it might be easier to leave the rest as is and update the cookie each time a vote is made for say 1, 2, 3 (simple i = i + 1) and read it instead of if vote = true don't show the poll read it as if vote = 3 don't show the poll.... *shrugs* just a few ideas for ya. |
