Hello
last year we moved to a new provider, (lunarpages windows 2003) after a short period they complained that on the server level we had a regular restart due to virtual memory limit reached. The forum was still version 3.3.0.x. So we decided to migrate to the current version. Today we recieved the same complaint and now with the log : the following event is recieved every minute **** Event Viewer Logs **** Event Type: Information Event Source: W3SVC Event Category: None Event ID: 1077 Date: 2/11/2008 Time: 3:53:37 PM User: N/A Computer: ARCTURUS Description: A worker process with process id of '13604' serving application pool 'seamasters.be(domain)(2.0)(pool)' has requested a recycle because it reached its virtual memory limit.
Can anyone give me an idea what to check? I've added the following mod's: event_Calender_mod-34-11 admin_tools_3304_11 private_mesages 3.5.5.fixed proeders file attachments faq administration 34_11 file_library 34-3
thanks

additional info: the worker process has a limit of 64 MB. Does Snitz needs more than this? |

Snitz possibly not, but then it would depend on many different things, most noteably how busy your forum is, however 64Mb is a rather paltry limit for an asp based website and only really suitable for a very low vistied basic site. |

they may not be, but recycling it every minute isn't going to do it much good either, since it will end up being down more than it is up |

Thanks guys additional info.
At this moment the number of visitors are very limited. Diving in winter is never very popular;-) less than 10 visitors, 2-3 registered a day.
Since one day I deactivated the e-mail components, and all of a sudden the environment has become stable. I have selected cdosys (IIS/5/5.1/6. Tonight after work I'll check again if it is still OK. (in about 11 h) Today schools are having an afternoon off, and there will be some members active then. Then I will reactivate the e-mail and see what happens.
I'll keep you posted. |

Do you have subscriptions enabled, perchance? If so then just turn them off and leave e-mail on and all should be well.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Or at least be more selective in what forums you allow subscriptions in, and add RSS for the rest. |

Ok I've had confirmation that the restarts were decreased to zero. With e-mail put to inactive.
I now activated the e-mail and deactivated subscriptions completely. I'll ask for a review in a few hours. Can you give anything on the root cause? One of the major features that where apreciated there is actually the fact that people can subscribe to follow anything moving in the forums. The absence of this information was giving the people the idea that nothing happended on the forums.
the use of RSS is still low spreaded in our country especially because people don't trust those automatic things on their computer (!) . thanks again for all the suggestions

It really would be worth adding the RSS feed and starting some sort of educational campaign on the use of RSS. There are so many different ways to keep track of an RSS feed you could easily sell it as being better than e-mail.
The MOD I put in over at www.eastoverfd.com (can't remember which one off the top of my head) even lets you get a feed for just a given topic or forum in addition to (or instead of) a general "Active Topics" feed. |

Yeah, Larry was having a fun time trying to explain to the chief what an RSS feed was and why we had added one to the site. When we added that page there was an increase in hits to the RSS feed, and that increase has stayed up since. |
