Just wondering for you out there who have used the Snitz forums for your HOA what have you done for this? Like what mods have you implemented what things have you run into needs that you didn't think of initially?
I am going to be doing a site for my HOA and I would like to be able to get as much up front as I can so any thoughts and suggestions would be wonderful.
Thanks Jeff |

Home Owners Association. Basically certain communities have a rules and regualtions you have to abide by to live there and then there are owners in that community that run it they are put in by vote.
Are there things like this over there shaggy?
My wife is on the HOA board and they all know I do web programming so I end up doing it. But I am glad to cause then I get to decide what is there and not and what people can do and not so its kind of fun to have a little control. |

I would see a normal forum with a few mods: certainly polls, private messages, maybe avatars to allow some life into the thing. If you want images, then the image resize mod and one of the upload mods would be good. I'm becoming fond of the idea of time limiting edits to posts. Probably some form of CATPCHA for registration and maybe even a copy of my changed mod to avoid the nigerians. IPGate is very useful too.
Have fun building it .
P.S.: Some mods are full of security holes. Better scan them before you take the plunge and open the door to your site being hacked. |

Will do for sure on the checking them and getting the security bugs worked out.
Now just thinking I don't think we want to allow normal users to be able to delete their posts mainly for legality issues of them saying they said something or didn't and we can't prove it. Is there an easy way to say everyone but moderators and admins cannot delete posts?
Hey Rui what is the change mod? Not heard of that one?
*Edit for one more question
How would I go about setting it up that they could click a map of which unit is theirs then they could fill out their name and then in the profile it says
Username: Jensons Location: Unit 42
I think I already know how to do this but I think this would be very useful in a situation like this. anyone else concur? |

Ay, they're called residents associations and I despise them, but that ain't a rant for this topic

The edit / delete time limited mod by cripto9t is great for that. You can define a very short period for post edition and after that it's not possible for the users to do it any longer.

It's just the mod to avoid members with a low number of posts to be able to email other members. Someone changed my first version, to allow admin overrides for certain users.

Not sure about this one, never did anything like, a little research would be needed, maybe using image maps or something. |

Yeah I was thinking about using image maps then just passing the data to the database with that unit number then they could just type there name and be good to go. I think this would also keep bots out. At least help it cause they have to click an image to do this what do you think? |

You could remove the delete link (trashcan icon) for normal users. the option would still be there of course. |

Yeah I do that way we can control everyone who is registered and then its easier cause really no more than who is living in our community should be able to register.
My problem would come with handling people moving out and in. Hmm...
And cripto I like that idea at least for now cause no one would have any clue how to delete in my community without the link.
If it becomes a problem down the road I guess I could just do a usergroup and manage it that way.

Link or not link, cripto9t mod stops editings or deletes once the configured time is over.
Image maps maybe too much. If you created a database with the names / unit numbers of each of your neighbours, you could do that to validate the registration. |

Hmm I just would need a way they could add that in as I have no idea who everyone is at each unit so this would be something they need to enter manually. Or did I miss what you were saying Rui? Just to clear up my understanding I would put in each unit and who they are into a database then when they enter it in on the snitz registration when they fill out their last name anbd unit number it checks what they entered against my database to see if there is a match?
IS that correct? |
