Spamming printers from the Web? Researcher shows how
As far as I can tell from the article it only affects networked printers... like the one I have set up at home.
Here's hoping its more theory than reality. We get enough fax spam here at work. |

That's just disturbing. We really need better spam tracking technology and stricter anti-spam laws. It was bad enough when I had to worry about spam in my inbox, but if they start wasting my ink and toner, I'll be really ****ed off. That stuff is expensive! |

Well, like the article said, it doesn't seem to be able to print to a local printer - just a networked one. |

Actually this might be good if this happens there will be a more legitimate argument against spam. Law makers currently can't see how spam costs money but if they start using our resources and our money like in spam fax than there is a small leap from fax spam to printer spam and then the gap from previous arguments to email spam is less. And maybe the ways to kill printer spam will kill email spam also. |

Unfortunately many home printer nowadays supports networked printing (WiFi even) by default..... |

Agreed. I've got two networked printers at home: one laser and one inkjet. If I started getting stuff like this, I would probably start responding to some of their spam. At the very least I would be getting their address and sending them *lots* of letters (and possibly a bill or two) not so politely telling them to stop. |

Kinda like replying to the fax spam by sending them their message back ... with the top taped to the bottom. |
