Should we compile a list of IP address from known hackers? I have 3 I know of who took my site down. Can we post them?

If a list is compiled how do we check against attacks on the list. How do we make sure the IP is a hacker and not an annoying friend?

The other problem is that if a hacker is working via a spoofed IP or from behind a proxy you could be black-listing more than just the hacker...

IP blocking doesn't work, it's the clumsiest protection you can get - for instance you could block all of Israel's access easily by accident (it's all proxied, same as AOL, China, etc). Back in 1998 we rejected this model for a publishing company as it just wasn't accurate.
