I have gone through about 35 different forum posts trying to fix my problem which is obviously a permissions issue, every tip I found and tried proved unsuccessful. I am running IIS on a XP Pro machine and no matter what I do I get the error;
Error: -2147467259 Operation must use an updateable query. strSql: INSERT INTO FORUM_CATEGORY(CAT_STATUS, CAT_NAME) VALUES(1, 'Snitz Forums 2000') Error: -2147467259 Operation must use an updateable query.
...
In IIS I have the directory "DB" set to 777, i.e. all permissions are open, on the .mdb file all permissions are the same, allowing Read, Write, Scripts, etc... Anonymous User has access on the .mdb.
If it makes any difference, there is no Group called "Everyone" on XP Pro, the Users group has IUSR_MACHINE as a member and the I_USR has RW permissions on the dir and the .mdb. My config.asp contains this line;
strConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("../db/snitz_forums_2000.mdb") '## MS Access 2000 using virtual path
Please don't just refer me to the standard forum help page, it does not apply to XP Pro. If I read about http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16559 one more time I'm going to scream. Anyone run into this problem on XP Pro? |

Nevermind, I found the CORRECT fix. Thenks to everyone who previously NEVER posted the correct way to view the Security Tab in Explorer...
To fix to problem;
To get the security tab on Windows XP Pro, follow these steps:
1) Open Windows Explorer 2) Menu>>Tools>>Folder Options>>View Tab. 3) The very bottom option check box should be: "Use Simple file Sharing" 4) Uncheck this ... and the Security tab should appear on every folder. This is generally checked as a default on a new XP Pro install. Note: Windows XP Home will not have this option or a security tab.

Oh silly me, I should have known to look for a 6 year old post that might have a solution... Maybe to FAQ should provide better details to help. |

Yeah, it's hard to search for the archives... it's better to come here and state that the morons who help out here would NEVER, EVER post such an obvious procedure. Also the stupid searching code is very picky with the dates, it surely wouldn't pick a SIX year old post, never.
I should have known better than expect you to recognize you weren't right. Never mind, other users can judge your behavior by themselves. |
