I've noticed this in my forum source code:
<!-- BEGIN Winvite.com BANNER CODE --> <!--<br><a href="http://www.winvite.com/index.cfm?ref=reinhold@bigfoot.com"><img src="http://www.winvite.com/images/revision/ads/mb_button_1b.gif" width=234 height=30 alt="Answer 3 Survey Questions and Win $4,500!" border="0"></a>--> <!-- END Winvite.com BANNER CODE -->
It doesn't actually produce the image on my forum but can I presume that it is some kind of banner ad to pay for Snitz?

It once was an ad that was used here at the site and would have been an option to earn some money with the forum. But it wasn't a good idea since they kept sending mail to users, it was hard to get off their list etc.
Now it just is a placeholder if you want to add you own advertisment. An example of where you can put it in the code.
It does nothing ! No hidden things or anything, it is allright if you remove it.

You're welcome
Your forum looks nice, you might want to make a new LOGON/LOGOUT button, but otherwise, very nice.
A question for you: you use a lot of advertisment on you site. Does it really bring in enough money ? I mean, do your visitors really click on them and don't they just get anoyed by the extra window popping up ? Is it worth it ?

Thanks for the comments on my forum, Pierre. Yes, I will be changing the login/logout buttons soon... just got to get around to it!
The advertising on my site? Most of it is related to the content such as the ads for the posters, sheet music and concert tickets. The top ad is a (mostly) music related CPM banner, so this can bring in some money when the right campaigns come up. Enough to pay my hosts at least!
I have been experimenting with the popup ad over the last couple of weeks and to be honest, I haven't really seen a noticeable decrease in visitors since I added this 'feature'. It also brings in a suprisingly decent CPM so i'm still 50/50 whether I should keep it or not.
The other ads are also experiments which I will probably drop in the near future.
Thanks for looking at my site and a big thanks for the software. Makes you wonder why people actually pay the ridiculous fees they charge for software such as UBB!
