My forum www.infocrucero.com/foros have more than 500.000 posts and 19000 registered users.

After years running ok, in the last month it start to have problems with some querys, usually those that start with
SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT T.TOPIC_ID

MySQL put this query in "sending data" status, and all the other querys are locked until this query ends. It may use 700 seconds or more to run it.

I'm upgrade to mySQL 5 and nothing changed, i'm using snits forums 3.4.05

¿Is there an option in MySQL to cancel slow querys? where?

¿Could it be an index problem? i'll try to rebuild it as i see in a post here.

You should definitely rebuild the indexes, it will speed things a bit. You should also archive older topics. 500,000 live posts is a bit too much to keep.

There is no way to cancel slow queries, the server will just try to execute them until they get completed.
