I seem to be having a problem similar to this;

http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=55925

When I look up the error logs the message looks something like this;

2007-12-03 01:37:20 W3SVC22129 SERVER xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /forum/forum.asp FORUM_ID=1|305|800a000b|Division_by_zero 80 - XX.XX.XX.XX HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+SV1;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727) Snitz00strSelectSize=2;+Snitz00User=Pword=xxxxxxx&Name=username;+%2Fforum%2Fpoll=14832=14832&14829=14829&14828=14828;+ASPSESSIONIDAQAQSQRD=LODHEIHBDKCJEJDOAIDALFFI;+Snitz00User=;+ASPSESSIONIDCSARRCRQ=NOGJKOKBFKOPNJHIGMKHBEHA http://www.domain.com/forum/default.asp www.domain.com 500 0 0 1609 776 299

Some of the first errors seem to be from a "poll" post which I just installed after a clean rebuild, but other are not. This error has plagued me prior to installing the poll mod.

The strange thing is I'm running 3.4.06 and the config file is using option=16387.

It happens maybe once every couple of months. The only solution I've found is to change in directory. Get the error, change the directory name and it works fine.

When the problem starts happening often times the forum (which is set to members only) will half display for any visitor. You can see topics/forum names/and hyperlinks on the menu, but clicking on eny of these will produce a 500 (internal server error).

I'm sort of at a loss and getting tired of changing the forum directory. Any ideas on this one?

first thing to try is to set the 'Show freindly HTTP error messages' to OFF in your browser. It is under the Tools|Internet Options menu on the Advanced tab. You may then get the actual error and line number it occurs on rather than the 500 error

Can you post a link to a *.txt copy of your forum.asp file?
