What does the "lock" icon opposite members names do? How does it work?
I seem to get zero function from it. I would like to be able to "lock out" some troublesome members from time to time. Give them a 'timeout' instead of deleting them.

Any advice on how to do that?

Thanks

Locking them using the icon acomplishes precisely what you are requesting.

It seemed that that would be so but it is not working for me.

Might it be that the member I want to block will not be affected until they log out?

I "locked" him out a few days ago and he is still posting.

All my standard lock icons for current members show an icon in a lock 'closed' position.

When I try to block this member and click the icon it changes to a lock 'open' position.

Thanks for the fast response!!

The opened lock icon means that the member is locked. Locking a member will immediately remove the possibility of that member remaining logged in and posting is impossible.
Do you have a link to your forum and a test login?

You are running a very, very old Snitz version. My advice is that you upgrade to the latest forum version ASAP.

Some update:

While I try to get my new web master to update the forum software (he is a bit worried about doing it smoothly and successfuly) I tthought I'd pass on some data on the lack of blocking for this troublesome member:

In all our tests the lock icon works fine everywhere but the troublesome character. I find out that he cannot self edit and that appears to be due to the fact that he disallows cookies on this computer.

This all seems tied together. Lack of cookies, unable to block.

FYI

Not sure what happens with that version you are using, since it was released even before I became a Snitz member, but that is surely not the way the current version works.
