I have a few strange things happening on my computer.
1)The icons of my hard disks where substituted by the "no icon" icon of windows. But the icon of the hd is the same as the External hd which works!!!! So that means the icon IS there but is not beeing displayed. I TRIED to put it back, but it wouldn't work.
2) Sometimes my explorer.exe (im using windows xp home edition service pack 2 updated) just crashes for no apparent reason.
3) When I type in my password at the login screen of windows, the first time it will always give it wrong, even if it's correct.
Does someone know what's going on? |

Maybe a virus or spyware. Explorer is having a problem. I would do some anti-virus in depth scans. |

I used to recommend Trend Micro's HouseCall, but it hasn't been consistently working lately... when it works its great though. =/ |

AFTER you re-install all programs and recreate all configuration settings... =====================>
You get these same errors in Safe Mode???
HouseCall is great! [Caution: Opinion!] TrendMicro is best on market![end opinion]
Use Task manager to view running processes. Compare list with what should be running. If you have virus, it will *most likely* show up there. Google any running process you can't identify. If listed as virus/malware, begin clean-up. |

Thanks, I'll try those programs/sites you suggested, if they won't work... then I think I'll format. |

If you're having trouble ID'ing a particular process, and don't know if its good or not I've found that http://www.processlibrary.com/ has a wonderful list of processes and what they go to. Unfortunately, as I type this it appears to be down. |
