If that is true, then you are indeed guilty of spamming so should be very careful, as you could face prosecution as well as losing your hosting account. |

Hi HuwR,
I completely understand your point, and respect it, I was thinking of a maximum of 1 email per month and only to inform of updates of interest to the members (a specific audience).
That said the main point still applies... they didnt sign up to receive any updates, maybe should have included it in the T&C before I started the whole thing up.
A perfectly valid point well taken and understood. |

The predominate web design / internet hosting guru in my town spoke at a chamber of commerce meeting and addressed the issue of un-solicited emails.
He was very cautious and would not endorse sending un-solicited emails. However, he said that if one was intent upon doing so that they should include their name, address, phone number and an "opt-out" notice for anyone that does not want un-solicited emails. Furthermore, he stated that the email should not contain sales type promotional information. In other words, emails could contain things like the factual announcements not related to the promotion of a product, service or website.
Mind you, he was addressing a group of prominent community business leaders (not including myself).

thanks for that contribution, as i mentioned, it would onyl contain interesting information relevent to their membership and the whole poijnt the 'subscribed' in the first place, emails would be a maximum of one per month (if that) and would not contain sales messages in any shape or form.
i have now included this in the T&C on the policy page, but does not of course apply to the previous 2000 members that did not read it (does anyone?!)
I owuld hope that none of the members would consider that spam, although i undertand that it is a possibility.
Any advance on what my preobem might be?!
thanks

you may still run into problems with your host even if using a 3rd party smtp server, since technically the email is still being sent from your hosts server using the email component. You would be far better setting up a proper mailing list to do this rather than using the forum. |

hi, they offer the possibility of a mailing list, but how could i import the data from the forum without having to add all 2000 email addresses one by one? is that possible?
