Then your host has the full version.
I would assume that if they are asking you to use the authentication features they have the full version too. Best bet would to see if they have any example scripts to use as a reference point. (Most hosts do) |

HuwR, you don't know what you are talking about. You are simply confusing and misleading people with your old knowledge. And you are childishly rude.
1) Most recent smtp servers check your from address. If it is not the one they assigned to you, they'll refuse to relay. NetworkSolutions is one example. Note you: NetworkSolutions is the company that manage the root DNS for the whole Internet. They know what they are doing.
2) Most mail servers will check the domain of your email address and the host that sent out the message. If they don't match, they'll reject your mail. Yahoo is an example.
Not all mail servers have applied these, so sometime, somewhere, you can still do your old mailing. But sometime, somewhere, you'll be in trouble.
It took me lots of time to figure out these. I have 2000 members in my forum. When things go wrong, they'll let me know. In the past, I, like you, thought it was their mail servers' problem. Now I know the truth after many hours of investigation.
Dear, snitz users, please listen to me, if you need a reliable forum. See my other thread for details. I also found that once the mail system is having trouble to send out messages, the forum slows down significantly. |

Strange how he managed to make it all the way up the ladder to an admin position here, then, isn't it?!

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

excuse me, but I am fully aware of what I am talking about, I host websites and run SMTP servers with > 500 domains installed on them so am perfectly aware of how a mail server should and shouldn't work.
1)SMTP servers if using Authentication DO NOT check your From address, that is the whole point of having authentication, checking the senders from address to prevent relaying harks back to the days when SMTP authentication wasn't the norm, so I'm afraid that it is you who have old knowledge not me. Yahoo is an example of a very badly managed and set up mail server hence the reason most places don't accept emails from it, it is a spammers paradise, so not a very good example to site I'm afraid.
2) also complete rubbish, like I said, I am perfectly aware how mail servers work since I host several hundred domains/several thousand accounts and I can assure you that they do not work as you suggest that they do.
The reason it took you lots of time to figure it out is exactly because it is not normal to work that way.
Edit: Inserted more appropriate word |
