Over the past few weeks, I've been getting a lot of spammers and had lost Admin rights for a short bit till I found an answer here to correct that. But ever since then I've had to set "Prohibit New Members" to ON under Main Forum Configuration.
In the E-mail Server Configuration area I have these set as follows. I think this is correct to approve new registrants.
Require Unique E-mail: On E-mail Validation: On Restrict Registration: On
But it appears that even with these setting anyone just is able to register without getting the Registration Email and just automatically gets approved.
Do I have it set correctly or is there some other issue at hand here now? I'm on Snitz Forum Version 3.4.03 using SQLServer.
Thanks in advance!

Oh also the "Forgot Password?" link is nowhere to be found now. I can't get that to appear at all.
More info... I've had the same mail server and registration settings for years with no issues. It all started happening once the spammers got on. |

Email mode was set to OFF! I didn't even notice that, thinking it was turned on before, or atleast I did have it on. I'll try that back on and check the security postings. EDIT: I did have those security options implemented already.
Also if I were to upgrade to 3.4.06, do I just copy all the files to my server forum directory or do I have to go through a full install setup again. I'd hate to lose all my colors and settings and such.
Thanks!

Yeah, the registration features would be working if Email was On ...
To upgrade to 3.4.06 just save a copy of your current config.asp, so that you can reuse your strDbType and strConnString settings and replace all the other files. Once you run setup.asp the site will keep the exact same looks as you now have, since all that data is kept in the database and it won't be changed by running setup.asp. |

The update should be mainly done for security reasons, as there have been several security fixes posted since 3.4.03. Also, it uses a new birth date specification, using dropdowns and that, coupled with a mod by Shaggy to make the registration date mandatory, has proved very effective in stopping spam registrations. |

Sounds like it should be done.
To upgrade, should the forum be set to offline or don't worry about that and just load up the files?
I have all my changes in place in the new code. Just need to do it now.
Thanks! |
