Okay, this is a first for me, using the snitz code.

In the Admin options, under admin_config_email I only recieve one option for type of email server I can use:
(CDOSYS 5/5.1/6) I turned the email to on, and put in my smtp mail address. I have all the email options set to on.

I did a test sign up, and all went well. I waited a resperctable amount of time for the activation email to arrive, after approving the pending member. When I approved the pending member, I received no errors, and was told that the email had been successfully sent.

Has anyone come across this issue? and if so what is the fix?
I am using an inbound mx. server, and and outbound smtp server.

both of them work without a hitch... until now...

Again, thanks for the assistance...

most likely your webserver is not setup correctly to use CDOSYS. is it your own server ?

Yes... it's our server...
In the previous release I used on my last site, there were more options than simply cdosys in the dropdown.
But in this one the only option os cdosys...

Is there somewhere in the config.asp script or one of the other includes, where I can change this or add the option for cdonts?

alright, this is kind of weird but...

I went to one of the test accounts, and changed the email address, and it instantly sent me an email saying that the email account had been changed and the following link needed to be clicked in order to update the email address. I clicked it - it worked - doesnt this mean that the email component is indeed working? And if so... why would it work to send an email out for email address changes, but not for the activation email??

Thanks all for any assistance you can give in this matter...

emails are not sent out when "activating" an account, you may just be getting confused as to how your forum is functioning. there are several levels of sign-up, "authorising pending members" sends out an email however activation of a pending account does not, it simply activates the account allowing it to be used.

if you have enabled only email validation, then activating them from "pending members screen" does not send an email.
if you have enabled email validation AND restrict registration, then activating from the pending screen will send out an email.

Okay... I have the propblem semi-solved for the moment by simply using another of my webbased email servers.
This will work for the moment and I will continue to look for answers to the current problem.

Thanks again for your assistance, I look forward to being more of a contributor to the solution in the future than the one who needs one...

if it works with a different mail server then the problem is due to authentication or relaying problems
