Hi Folks:

I am having a problem of BBS navigation being extremely slow, sometimes timing out. Even if it initially loads in a reasonable time, before long, going from page to page, it will time out. I am using version 3.4.04. The tech people at the web hosting company say this:

You reported your buttetin board located at "http://www.saint-mike.org/csgsar/bbs" is timing out. This is due to the script failing to execute within the default limit of 120 secs of script execution time because it executes too many complex queries. We have added the following code and now the script is loading fine after some delay.

Server.ScriptTimeout = 900

You will need to review your code and see that your scripts execute within the default time frame in order to load the pages fast.

Will upgrading to the most recent version solve this problem? If so, then I have another question about the upgrade, but first to this issue.

Thanks,

BroJP

if you are using a default Snitz installation without any MODS installed, then it is extremely unlikely that upgrading will solve your problem,because without a doubt the slowness of your code/queeries is a result of poor server hardware and not due to the code, as you can see from the execution times of this site, the code is not slow at all when running on decent servers

Another couple thoughts - Are you using Access? If so, it may help to do a compact and repair; and it will help to archive some topics if you aren't in the habit of doing so. Actually, regardless of the database you use some good archiving should help a little.

Either/both may or may not be enough, but neither will hurt.

And if you are using Access, migrating to a different database server can help too...

judging by the size of BroIgnatius's forum I would not suspect Access as being the culprit, I would definately suspect the server as the main culprit
