I would like some statistics displayed in a box on my frontpage,(forum with lang mod is running from subfolder)

Something like:

Last topic: (subject URL) by (user URL)
Newest member: (user)
Members: (no. of members)

Can anyone help with the SQL ?

Go to your Admin page and click on "Feature Configuration" and set "Show Detailed Statistics" to "On". That should be close to what you want.
