Also try deleting your browser cache/temp files etc - that may flush it through

The reason you should have it in inc_header.asp is because it is included in most (if not all) public pages of your forum. This means that if someone adds a specific topic or other page of your forum to their favorites or browser links bar your favicon will be used there also.

Make sure your path is correct and if I'm not mistaken
I believe the icon has to be named "favicon". But I could be wrong.
And as mentioned above if your using anything less than IE7 it may not work.
I use IE6 and almost never see one and if one does show up it only lasts for 2 or 3 visits.

This will also help.

You should not have to add any code at all. Simply by placing the file in your root directory should be enough. Most browsers will automatically detect it.

It must be named favicon.ico. You can't simply take an image file and change the extension. You need to convert the image (gif, jpg, png) to an ico file. You can do this with a free program called IrfanView. Just open it up and Save As an ico file. There is also an online favicon generator that has already been mentioned at Dynamic Drive.

You're right about IE being buggy, but that is for version 6 or lower. Version 7 seems to work fine regarding the favicon.ico. I know that I have never added any code and I can see my favicon in IE7, FF and Safari.

To check if your favicon is where is should be, you can enter it's URL as: www. yoursite. com/favicon.ico . It should appear on your display.

It is worth noting what Dynamic Drive noted on the page you linked to:
quote:
Note that your favicon may not appear immediately after you've completed the above two steps. In fact, it may take a few days, and in IE, sometimes the favicon will disappear from time to time due to a browser bug.

favicon.ico

I tried it but it was hit and miss on 2 different machines with 4 browsers. Just seen note about taking a few days so I will let it sort itself out and come back if all is not well.
cheers

Your favicon shows up from within your forum pages. I went here to check: http://cadfhs.org.uk/forum/favicon.ico This would mean that it will work in your forum buy not your main site. You need to place the favicon.ico file in the same place as your main default or index page.
