hi, I'm really interested in installing the snitz forums for my software, but my tech friend says that our server doesn't support ASP, and no ASP means no Snitz. Is there anything I can do to go around this and get Snitz anyways? If I must get ASP, how would I go about getting my server to support ASP? |

If it's your self u need to install IIS or install a webserver. |

Okay, I've talked to my tech guy, and he says he's sent an email to the company yesterday. Because we're on the Linux Server, my tech guy says we're going to need Chili!Soft ASP. Hopefully we're in the right path?
Thanks for the help! |

But other than the product's name change, yes, you need Chili/Sun One to use ASP (a Microsoft technology) on non-Microsoft OS'es

Does anyone have any knowledge of using apache::asp module on a linux server to run a snitz forum that will need to be migrated from Access to mySql?
We want to go to a linux environment for a whole bunch of reasons but the only host I can find that will allow snitz has apache::asp module installed. It is a virtual dedicated host so I have my own operating system - Red Hat Fedora Core 4 (which I know nothing about). I can load any module I want so another question is whether I can load the Sun One ASP module and run it or will it conflict with the apache::asp already installed?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I have lots of expertise in migrating data from many types of databases so I am not intimidated by that part of the process, I am more concerned about what pitfalls I am likely to encounter trying to run an asp application on a linux server with an os I know nothing about not to mention having never worked in a linux system. |

Another question, the Mysql database supported by the new host is 4.X?? The snitz specs say only 3.X for mySql. Will I have problems here? |

Optimal, you may hit blocks along your path - I don't know about apache::asp, so this may be balderdash, but I suspect you may hit odd compatibility problems - for instance the Sun One/Chili ASP throws errors at blank lines in linewrap circumstances, which IIS tolerates. Both probably fully meet the ASP spec, but interpretation differences cause issues. Probably similar with apache::asp.
Anything which uses the system objects (for instance filesystemobject or cdonts) may also cause grief - I just don't know, but those would be the points I'd concentrate on.
I don't know if you install the sun one as well as the apache::asp how you would go about instructing the server to use one interpretation engine over the other - you'd need to speak with a linux/apache-head over that one. Probably not difficult, but you will need to find out :) |

apache::asp doesn't support vbscript, which means it won't run Snitz.
