Hi. Version .05 still.
Logged in as the admin. When I want to delete a member is asks me for my login and password again saying I must be an admin to delete. Is this really the way it is supposed to work or am I missing a setting somewhere?

Ok. Thanks. Quite a pain when there's more that one user to delete. |

Just an FYI... If you delete them they can turn right around and sign up with the same name and email addy. If it's a bot doing it, it will happen more than likely.
If you lock them they cannot, and it serves the same purpose as deleting.

It's an 'are you really sure'-type thing. Remember the effect it may have on topics the member partook in if you delete all their posts as opposed to locking the member!! |

Following on from pdrg, Obviously when deleting members who have previously posted on the forum, will result in threads having 'n/a' against their posted lines instead of the previous member name. Is there a way, when we delete a member that their previous posts are shown as 'deleted member' instead of 'n/a'. |

I believe instead of deleteing them you could just switch their username to deleted member. But not sure what effects that would have but I think that may be an option |

Switching their username to 'deleted member' can only be done once, I think the forum only allows unique usernames, no repeats. Good thought though! |

It's possible to delete them and then use a small dbs script to set the 'n/a' to something else. I think I have already posted the script to do that, but I don't seem to be able to find it. |

I have changed it so if there is a post with a n/a for a member, it shows as "Foomer Member" and the profile is not clickable as shown in this topic: at Classic Motorcycling Australia
It is pretty easy to do if you know what you are doing...

Again altering the members name to 'former member' or something else, can only done once. The forum only allows an unique username, no duplicates. |

No, what Dave is talking about is making changes to the forum files themselves to include a check to see if the member's username is n/a and writing "Former Member" instead, without a profile link if it is.

The restriction is enforced by the forum code, not the database, so it can be done from the DB side or a dbs file. |

Ahh that is what I was thinking was editing the database directly on this one. Sorry I guess I wasn't clear but also wasn't sure if it would work but in theory seemed like it would. Glad the experts stepped in. |
