Hello again!

As described in other topics I have "inherited" a forum as all the others that were working on it seem to have given up on it. I have a MySQL db (5.0) and Snitz 3.4.05 running. I allow users to have small pictures in their signatures as well as in their profiles.

I understand that with the version of MySQL that I have archiving seems to be a no go. I would ask my host to upgrade to 5.1 but I cannot get in touch with them hardly at all it seems. I would like to start over with the forums and not only upgrade to .06 but clean out the db as well. I think that because I have had so much archiving troubles, many threads/replies there is a looooong query time and it is slow.

Is there a way that I can create another db and import only those tables I want? For example, I would create a fresh db but want to import the table with all of the members in it so that they don't have to register again. I realize that I would also have to reinstall my upgrades in this mess, but I can do that. I would eventually want to get rid of the "old" db. Would this be possible?

Thanks!

Archiving would certainly help alleviate those slowdowns. What MySQL version is in use, now?

ruirib,

This topic was another that I started in relation to archiving problems. I have MySQL 5.0 installed and you told me that:

quote:
"Frankly, using MySQL 5.0, the archiving will never work. So, if you want to update because of that... If there are other reasons, then go for it."

Being that I have the archiving difficulties, I am wondering what the best course of action may be. As I said, contacting my hosting company is very difficult for some reason. They even make IIS upgrades with no warning. I am not too happy with them, but it's not my call as I am not footing the bill for the space. I am just the forum admin.

Any ideas?

Maybe try the advice here: http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=63562&SearchTerms=type,mismatch

Anyway, looks like your database may need some work to get the archiving working, even if the MySQL type mismatch errors can be corrected.
