I was replying to posts on my forum earlier today with no problem, but when I went to reply to one about an hour a go I received this error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01fb'

An exception occurred: 'my_Conn.Execute'

/databases/forum/post_info.asp, line 1208

Now when I went back to the main page of the forum I found that the reply I wrote did in fact post, but I can't seem to shake this error happening every time I send a reply now. Another odd thing is that I don't get this error when I start a new topic, just when I reply to ones that are already up.

So has anyone else encountered this and / or have any ideas?

Can you post a few lines either side of post_info.asp, line 1208 ?

Also, can you post a few lines either side of inc_func_common.asp, line 968 ?

Have you added any mods ?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you here. It would seem that the problem existed server side, and whatever it was has since been fixed by my webhost. Thanks for responding to the post so quickly though!

Did they or can you ask then to provide you with details of what the problem was and how they fixed it that you could post here for anyone who may encounter the same problem in the future?

Didn't want to hijack this thread but there was no resolution and I am now getting this same error. No other posts in the forum seem to address this issue. Anyone else ever get this error???

My Win 2k3 Web server box crashed due to a hardware failure. When it booted back up, all of my web sites were ok, execpt for Snitz (access database). When the web service is started fresh, the forum will come up. However after a few requests it will slow down and die with no page serves and no error messages on the browser and no time outs.

Clicking on Active users, brings up this error.

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01fb'

An exception occurred: 'my_Conn.execute'

/inc_func_common.asp, line 244

FYI The forum is at http://bmwturbos.scottiesharpe.com

Other sites on the same box work fine and at good speed.

e.g. http://www.scottiesharpe.com/reviews

Rebooting the box or www service will make the forum work again. However after the first few requests, it locks up again.

Any help is appreciated.

OK - I think it is something to do with ASP pages not rendering.

Well, I re-installed IIS on the web server and brought the entire www subsystem up from scratch. Same issue. I disabled Active Users in the MOD panel. It kind of runs now, although seems slow. Until I get more time and can really troubleshoot properly....

You should use something other than Access. MySQL is free and quite capable of handling heavy traffic.

Or SQL Server 2005 Express edition (also free) if you'd rather stick to MS software.

Yup - this is certainly DB/locking driven, so either you're holding connections open too long (which I doubt as they should release when the page has rendered), have some transactions that are causing locking, or have some funky COM+ problem - either way updating IIS won't change it!

If you can run on a heftier dbengine (Sql Server (full edition if possible but Express will do just fine - I prefer the full edition as you get some of the funky tools like the profiler which will help with advanced diagnostics if it's all looking bleak still) would be my nomination) you should see this vanish - or if not, maybe have more options. Can we confirm your site is very heavily used? How many concurrent users do you have?
