I am hoping to get some feedback. I know the policy is to not discuss hosting companies and I am not here for that. The problem is that my client emailed me today, said he had a cheaper hosting company and to move the entire site. The company is Godaddy. The site has been running perfectly on another host where I am a reseller and have several accounts. It has been up several years. It is running on an MS SQL database and uses a number of mods including the global login. The global login is vital for this site to run. The MS SQL database also hold quite a few other tables as well as the Snitz tables. Now I have been told (without discussion) to move the site.
What do I need to be concerned with and can anyone give me advice for preparing to move. Is there anything I should know about the move specifically to godaddy. Are there any pitfalls that I might encouter?
Any help is appreciated. I did a search already here in these forums specifically for Godaddy as a keyword and the comments were pretty mixed so I am wondering if anyone has anything specific that I should know before I attempt to move this very large and modified site which is completely based on snitz code. |

If godaddy treats SQL Server DB access from outside as they do with MySQL, you're in for a pleasure ride, cause no EM access will be allowed. That should make it a lotta fun... Personally I wouldn't do a move without EM.
Anyway, as the previous host, you're not forced to do the move yourself, so...let the client have all the fun. |

I'd get another client . If one of my clients told me to move an app to a cheaper server, I'd probably just tell them "OK, good luck with whoever moves things for you".

Yeah, I'm talking about Enterprise Manager. I'm not sure whether that occurs with godaddy SQL Server Dbs, but I know (and have endured the associated issues) that godaddy does not allow external access to their MySQL DBs, stoping the use of EM like apps.
Also I think Doug G's opinion is... well I'd do that too . |

Marshal,
If it comes to that point, I say they should have the opportunity to find for themselves if the choice they make is good or not. And I really think they should have the opportunity to do that... |
