Hi, my forum is putting new members in a pending list and I don't want to do that, we are losing a lot of potential members that way. Authorization is either NT or DB, and I don't know what those mean but right now it is set on DB.
I have restrict registration turned off. Some people do seem to get in without getting put into the pending list so I think it is some kind of software error.
Help!
Thanks,

The cookies were set to forum but I only have the one forum so I changed that to webiste - I don't think that would affect putting members into a pending list though. |

Probably because email validation is turned on, they will sit there until they validate their email address.

Don't be so sure. 95% of "potential" members that don't put in a valid email address are spammers. (At least on my forum)

Really, I thought email validation meant that they had to get an email from my forum, which is sent automatically, in order to complete theri registration. I do have email validation turned on.
However, I wonder if some search engines are registering, because two of them have google listed as homepage and cool links.
Still, the email validation shouldn't be putting wannabees in a pending list. |

Sure does. Where else would you put them? They're not members until they validate.

Naww, SE's don't register.

"Some people" are probably the one's that get their validation email, click on the link, and become members before you see them on the pending list.

FWIW, I've always got several people in the pending list. I wait 30 days then delete them.
I think they're just lurkers that thought they had to register to read our forum (they don't). Or maybe they just got mad enough to post one day, registered, then cooled down the next day and never confirmed. |

I appreciate the feedback, and what you say makes sense, BUT I had a friend who was put on the pending list and I'm pretty sure she would have authorized her email. I thought the pending list was only for people that needed to be authorized by the admin? are you sure that members who haven't authorized their email are put there too?
Some of the new members are suspicious though, two of them list google, and one as msn,as their homepage and cool links and four of them list their gender as 1 instead of male or female. Also they list their locations as Milan, Paris, Moskow, etc instead of a country. |

Well, I guess it's possible mine has been broke for almost 2 years and yours is working right.

OK, well if you put it that way ... I'll take your word for it.
Those members did have suspicious names along with the other suspicious markers so I deleted ALL of them HAHAHAHAHA .... except for one which wasn't suspicious.
I guess that friend of mine just didn't notice she would be sent and email authorization.
thank you for your help. |

Might want to let your friend know that some e-mail services may automatically put the forum's e-mail in a "Junk" folder, and that they will have to check it. |

I see, this could be a big problem for prospective members then. There should be a statement about this in the 'agreement' page, it seems to me. I guess what I'll do for now is write a couple of notices and put them in the forum itself. |

You could get OneWayMule's Custom Policy MOD (a quick search should turn it up). This will let you make the "agreement" text whatever you want. I use it on all my forums for that very reason. |
