I just moved my site to a new server. Everything seemed to be working but when I went into Admin Options to update the email settings, I got this error:
quote:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Operation must use an updateable query.

/forum/inc_func_common.asp, line 672

Now I get that error for every page, if I am logged in as Admin. If I am not logged in, then the forum is working. Need some help! Thanks.

Try the search page with 'updateable query'. It's hard to believe you never saw a post about that .

Oops, sorry everyone. I guess I paid little attention while my forum was working.

I've set the db folder with read/write permission but haven't quite solved the issue yet.

You need to assign read / write permission both on the folder and the file, for the anonymous internet user.

I know this has been answered elsewhere, but I have inherited a forum that was working perfectly, and in the last few days has started giving the error Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005', Operation must use an updateable query. /secman/forum/inc_func_common.asp, line 576.

The person that set this up is no longer around and I am struggling to keep it all together - would appreciate a "laymans" explanation of what i should do to fix this as the ones I have read have been confusing.

if it was working fine and has suddenly changed without you doing enaything, then you should contact your web host to find out if they have done anything on the server, files cannot loose permissions by themselves, it requires human intervention

OK, sorry, still trying to catch up on the etiquette of all this. I'll start another thread as the permissions have been fixed but still getting the same error.

AJ, your post does belong here as it is directly related to Taro's original problem - had your post been out of place, Huw would have told you as much.

OK, great, i hate being a newbie ...!! Well to summarise i sent all the information about the error and how to fix it (as posted in these forums) to the folks who host the site and they have confirmed that all the files and folders have the appropriate permissions as required; however the 80004005 error is still persisting. I have trolled through all the postings and can't find any other solution, so appreciate any other suggestions.

well, unfortunately there is NO other solution to the "Operation must use an updateable query" error, it means only one thing and that is that the permissions on your db file/folder are not set corrrectly

OK, thanks for your patience HuwR, I'll go back to the hosting crowd and beat them around the head and shoulders. Andrew

ask them to try adding the IWAM_XXXXX account as well as the IUSR_XXXXX or point them at Google, being your hosts they really should be able to fix this in a few seconds
