Hi all
I have a forum which is working fine since last year. However, last week at the Forum registration address I began receiving messages like this:
From "Mail Delivery Service" [***@***.it] To ***@***.it Subject Delivery Status Notification Date 15/05/2006 15:58
- These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server: ***@***.it; Failed; 5.2.2 (mailbox full)
Remote MTA ims3a.cp.tin.it: SMTP diagnostic: 552 RCPT TO: Mailbox disk quota exceeded
I receive one of these messages every 2 minutes for some hours each day.
They are all identical (same user name, same error, etc.) This user is not among the member pending list.
So now I must delete every day hundreds of these messages. My fear is that this is due to some automatic form of trying to get in the forum.
Can anybody give me some advice about a way to stop it?
Thank you all

there are some registration MODS which should stop this, take a look on SnitzBitz, but basically you want a mod that users have to confirm a random sequence of letters/numbers before subscription proceeds |

Thank you very much, HuwR
I installed the AntiSpam MOD by Robert Grund and it seems to be working fine!
I hope this will help prevent this kind of attacks.
Thank you again for your help |

The MOD is working fine. Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem. I still receive dozens of such messages every day.
I also changed the Administrator E-mail Address and, after less than one hour, I had already received 3 identical messages at the new address. So there must be some software which is able to read the Administrator E-mail Address in the registration form and start trying to register.
I will maybe decide to remove this address from the forum parameters, but this might be a problem for real users who need to contact us.

Finally I solved the problem.
I describe it here so that if something similar happens to other people, this post can be helpful.
A couple of weeks ago a real user told me that he had registered but never received back the confirmation mail. So I manually activated his account. But the reason why he didn't receive the mail was that his mailbox was full!
Furthermore, he had subscribed to the whole board (clicking on the icon without even knowing what it meant), so the forum every day was trying to send him a mail for each new posting in any category!
So it was not spamming. However, the antispam MOD I installed is working fine and can be useful anyway.
