Has anyone run a forum set within html frames successfully?

Seems to me that you have the opportunity of including other stuff like links or images in another frame running alongside. People are buying big monitors these days, which means a lot of usable real estate.

On the other hand, I can see navigation being an issue.

Here's how someone else uses frames: http://www.digidesign.com/ navigate to support/User Conference. They could more effectively run that down the side.

I have in our church's website. I don't think there was any modifications required to base code, but some mods (not all) have been troublesome with a tendency to break out of frames (private messages is a good example), and require minor code tweaks to operate in frames.

cheers,
Nat

Sadly, most Family Court Judges wrongfully reward opportunistic gold diggers
that use our children unjustly as "instruments" of power.

Its done, and sometimes well. But I personally try to avoid them whenever possible. That's why it drives me up a wall when the company Bobby used to register the domain forwards it to the official site using a frame. =/

I'm not saying they don't have their uses, but they do have their drawbacks.

I've had a look now, and wow! I'm really impressed. It makes mine look real dull, and gives me a standard to aim at.

How long did it take you...?

i worked on it since 2002 on year 2k3 i paused it for one year and on 2k4 till now i work ... 8 hours a week or more to improve the code and read each line of the whole code....
the frame part, shoutbox, new faq page, new security features and many many other things are coded by me to improve the whole product....

i think it will finished .... if it ever get finished .... on spring 2k7
there is only 2,5 mb code left *lol* but more then 50% is finished
and the last month the whole forum / site is on a sql 2k5 server running fine (at home)
if it has beta stadium it will running online (on augsburg24 server)

ich finds genial...
