l have never logged onto the snitz l ran as anything but admin so able to do everything.

I have been told that there is no way to Edit or Delete posts you make on the site l ran. I assumed there was till the other day when l was told no.

What l am not sure off is if this was an option that was turned off or just wasnt an option. I do not recall seeing it as an option setup so can anyone advise me. I had just assumed it was "there" so never asked about it till l realised it wasn't on here.

I see it is not on these forums so am concerned if it isnt is there a MOD or what please l dont recall seeing any about.

The individual poster should be able to edit/delete the posts that they make.

I believe that if you started a topic and there are replies, you can't delete the topic starter.. but you can still edit it. Its that way here and on every other Snitz forum I've seen...

It could be that there is a MOD installed that is interfering (intentionally or otherwise), but I can't think of what it could be off the top of my head.

<edit class="semi-briliant insight">
It could be that they are oblivious to the icons at the top of each post and don't know that they can...
</edit>

I think that's the answer you're looking for... or at least the answer to the question as I understood it.

This is a Really Bad Idea for an admin. One of the first things an admin should do is create a test user with normal privileges. This character is used all the time when testing things.

Just a random thought off of my above random thought...

I wonder if they are expecting Snitz to behave like a different package I've worked with (as a user)... in that forum a person who starts a thread is essentially a "moderator" of that thread and can edit/delete any reply to it.

Snitz is not set up that way, but I do believe there was some discussion of creating a MOD to allow that. Don't know how far it got.

It might make it easier if you find out from the people what the expected behavior is (after checking for the standard behavior).

I strongly suspect that the real issue is either:
1) They didn't see/understand the icons for what they wanted
2) They are expecting some sort of behavior that doesn't exist

Hi Anon it was just to allow the person who posted a post to do a standard edit on their own post they had put up, or if they suddenly realise they dont want it up to delete their own post. It was not for them to do anything to anyone elses postings.

The person who confirmed the edit and delete wasnt possible works with computers and has an undertsanding way above my basic knowledge.

Aparently there was no pencil icon to edit a post and no bin icon to delete your own post. l double checked with them to make sure.

Did they actually log in or did they just enter their user name and password when they posted? If they just enter their credentials when they post, they are not counted as having actually "logged in" and will never see the options they should have if they were logged in. I know some very intelligent people who have done the same thing. There was a discussion not too far back about some code changes to automatically log you in if you do something like that. Can't remember if it ever came to fruition.

Also, what MODs have you installed?

Could also be an archived post they're trying to change? At any rate, please confirm this yourself.

Sorry so long time to reply l have been on night shift.

Yes you have to be logged into post on the forum and no it wasn't achived posts.

I asked another person to double check on things and he said that he had never been able to edit or delete and he has been a member since the site got up and running in Sept. time.
He posts on other forums so used to the basic setup of forums.

I think that there was possibly a hicup in the original setup some place and because l only logged in as site admin so able to do everything l never assumed that there was any problems. As Tony said a bad idea but to be honest it never occured to me to set up a dummy name.

I will see what happens when my new one goes up and if there is any problems on the edit/delete l will come back and see when l have the codeing etc what any one suggests.

Thanks again for all the help and back up
