I am the forum admin for our site. We are using the latest version of the forum, we have registration required, however we have registration turned off so we have to manually add new users. Lately we have been seeing where guests have been in the forum, when they shouldnt be allowed in. Any suggestions or ideas on how to prevent them from comming into our forum?

How have you seen them? Through the active users mod?

You see, the active users mode tries to determine who visits what, but does that at the beginning of each page, in inc_header.asp. The code that stops a user from entering the forum goes after the code in inc_header, which means that although the mod says the user is inside the forum, it really is not.

So what your saying is that the guest could be on the main login page and not actually in the forum and that would register on the active users?

No, what I'm saying is that the guest may even be at the actual forum page, but he certainly won't get past the part that writes a message stating that he won't be able to get in.

Isn't there a feature in Active User mod to hide yourself?

Does it make it so you show up as a guest or just not appear on the page at all?

EDIT: Nevermind. Shows up as [Anonymous]

Would it be possible to re-order the code to prevent this behavior? So people who are at the "You Shall Not Pass" page (couldn't help that one) don't show up on the AU list?

I ask this having never used the MOD (yet), but I figure its the next logical question...

Code must go in some common file. The footer could be an option, but then some other uses, like showing who is online and such, wouldn't be possible.

The best alternative would be for the code to detect whether the user is allowed to get to the page or not.
