My forum is going on a website as a link. As well as the usual security setting on the forum, I would like to set up the forum so that to access the page (from the link)Windows prompts you for a username and password. We want this as we only want specific customers to see the forum.
So in short I would like to know how to set up the forum so that when the forum link is clicked windows prompts the user for a username and password.

Thank you,

Charlie

You will need to use IIS manager to configure the forum folder to have Basic Windows Authentication only.

Yes, directory security. Then click the Edit button right on top, and then uncheck Anonymous Access and check Basic authentication.

Done that. I am on a network and have just left the domain as default. and haven't got a clue what the username and password is. The forum is on my local machine in the wwwroot folder.

Each user will have its own Windows username and password. I think you may need to set access rights using Windows Explorer, in order to restrict access to the forum to authorized users only. Not sure about it, though, cause I have never used such an auth scheme.
