This is normal behaviour. After registration (including validating their e-mail, if you are using this feature) they will need to log in to begin using your forums.

The standard Snitz response to an incorrect login is "Your username and/or password was incorrect." not "Username not found". Get him to double check that he is entering his username and password correctly, remembering that the password is case sensitive. Failing that, he can reset his password by following the relevant link below the login form.

Hi Shaggy.
I agree with baabaashep that this is a bug.
The bug is about registering new user. The error that baabaashep specified is incorrect behavior of registering new user.
This bug depend on the current page that was opened before the user clicked on the "Register" link of the inc_header.asp page.
And if I am not wrong, its also occur when the current user was logged in. hope someone will get the steps for you to fix it.
its nusty and missleading new users.

Can ye post a bit more detail, so? This is not something which has come up before and, from your description, Lsakizada, I'm not exactly clear on what is happening. From BBS's description, the member was regsitered, as evidenced by the appearance of their username on members.asp, but the member is unable to login, which is why I suggested to BBS that he get the member to double check the username and password they are attempting to enter.

Hi Shaggy, The description of baabaashep is partially correct, and hope baabaashep will agree with me (or his user).

1. Beside of the error that was mentioned above there were another two or three validation error messages that
the system errored (on the same page) about missing some fields of the registration form (Can't remember exactly the messages).
2. I was able to use the key that sent to me over the mail server. e.g. I was able to loggin to the site.
but remember that its confused users since they will go and try to correct the missing fields but on the next attempt the system now will error them that the email address is already taken by other :)
3. I was rating this problem as medium since if the user ignore the errors , he will be able to loggin to the site.
4. Like I said above, its depend what page was opened when the user clicked on the "Register" link.
5. I have seen that many times but on original snitz forum. But I did not put much effort to fix it since
my site modified to redirect users always after registration to some home page, so its ignored this behaviour.

But absolutely its a problem (you can count on me!) Worth to find and fix it.

I had the same logon problem.

A user logs on (anyone, even admin), the message comes on about having successfully logged in, then the forum redirects back to the home screen with the login menu again.

I figured it was something to do with sessions and cookies on my machine, but I was able (obviously) to log in to this forum, so ... I guess that's not it.

Even registering a new user has the same effect. Buddy registers, is welcomed to the forum, goes back to the home page, shows up as the 'newest user', logs in again, gets the success message, then gets punted back to the logon screen again.

It's also wierd because all of this used to work, and I haven't fiddled with the setup for a year or so.

Logging in to the admin page works.

AHA!!!
The solution was on the main forum configuration page. Set the cookie to the website (instead of the forum) and everything works again.

It's always about the cookies.... My guess it was some kind of WinXP security third party cookie blocking thing that started with one of the XP upgrades.
