Hi everyone. Cant seems to find the right mod that will allow me to create a new field under user profile. I do believe that there are already mod on this can someone advise me?
I will need to create a Dept field(optional) under surname in user profile. And also to display the dept below the avatars just like the country and no of post etc...

I've never released this as a mod, but it should be of help. It is a mod that adds a new field to the database to hold a two-digit number that is a person's graduating class. It adds the new field to the profile (and it is mandatory, so it is there when a person registers). It then displays that number (with the text preceding it that reads "Call of '") under the username. Feel free to download the zip file and take a look at it - it should give you at least a general idea of how to proceed.
Since it is of such specific, limited use (I created it for a high school alumni site), I never saw the reason to release it for general consumption, but it might be something you can modify for what you want.
