Ok I'm using Access DB and I have noticed a new file in with my DB. It has the same filename as my database and a file extension of LDB.
It's description is listed as Access Lockfile 9?

Has anyone seen this before and know what it is. My forum has sort of crashed and is going so slow that it never fully loads a page? Htm page loads instantly but no asp. Have checked asp is ok on server and ftp no problem?

If I remember right, .LDB is a temporary file created by the Jet Engine.... though I'm not certain about that. Have you searched the MSDN?

What happened when it crashed?

That is a file used by Access to contro concurrent access to the database. You can delete it, but it's not the file that causes the problem.

What would happen to the locks held by the current sessions if you delete the file though ?

Well the file has dissapeared and it was not the cause of my problems. Slow loading was caused by a mod that was installed a couple of days ago.

I'll know if it ever pops up during ftp sessions not to worry about it in future..

Thanks all.

Yep, no need to worry about that file. It's just Access doing its job.

You will see the file every so often, but there is no way I would delete it.

If you are able to delete it, then it's safe. As simple as that. If Access is accessing it, it won't allow you to delete it.

If Access is not using it, would it even be there ?

Both sypderuk and myself have proof that it appears and disappears without warning.

Yeah it would appear. Sometimes Access crashes or fails and the file is not deleted. If you try to delete it then, it will be deleted. If Access is using it, it won't let you delete it.

Unless your site is not working, or Access itself crashed (when using it in your PC, not the web), then you should leave the file alone. If the site gets stuck and the file is there, you may delete it, though it many not even be needed. Never needed it in my own sites, though on my PC I had to do it several times.

Sorry for the rivial but it does come and go from time to time. I have it on my test forum now but not on my live forum.
I have extremely slow access at the moment but I do believe it's a server issue. Only around 70 members and under 1,500 post's. DB 1.85mb. Early days yet

I have researched SQL DB's on my provider but at £199 for 100mb DB per year this is out of my budget Doesn't quote whether MS or MY.
