i installed an evaluation copy of "SysGuard" (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Lockdown/SysGuard.shtml) and all was ok... until I restarted my comp - now i cant login to any of the accounts on that partition... i get errors about dr watson debug or something not working properly.
anyone got any idea how i can get rid of this goit from my comp without losing everything? failing that i've already partitioned my drive in order to get back online, so if there's a way to access the documents of my main user account from the second partitions admin accounts... i have backups of course but ive got AS chemistry coursework on there (amongst other things) that i've done since the last backup and believe me... i'll do anything to avoid having to do that again!

If you login (to Windows I presume) on the new install, you should be able to browse to the directory on the other (old) partition.

If you right click a folder can you "Take ownership" and let it propogate to all child objects ?

Which version of Windows are you using ?

When you say "can't access" what are you trying to do and what error do you get?

i mean i get an access denied error when i try to do anything with the folder... thats not the main problem though... if i can find a way to fix the accounts then all would be ok... ive uninstalled "sysguard" using the new account but no effect... im thinking the easiest way would be somehow using system restore on the partition i can't login to... meh.

If you've got a removable drive handy you can download a copy of Knoppix - a CD-based Linux distro and read from the NT partition and write it to the removable drive. Remember, you can only read NT partitions in Knoppix. I've used this in the past to recover files from computers with similar problems.

Given that there is always the ability to hose the data on the disk, I'd save this for when you've just about run out of options.
