Hello. My brand new site went live yesterday. Despite lots of experience on forums, I've never been admin on one before. I've got two important questions I can't figure out:

1) How do I move a thread from one category to another?

2) How do I set up a forum as an "Allowed Member List (Hidden)"? I need to hide the testing forum a.s.a.p. and may want to set up others that way also.

Thanks.

Holly

P.S.- Can I change my user name to avoid using my entire name in the future?

1. Edit the first post in the thread and select the new forum from the drop down list. Click submit.
2. Enable private forums in the admin area first then watch this - http://www.forumco.com/articles/tutorials/passwordprotect.html
You should select "Allowed Member List (Hidden)" instead of a password at the appropriate time.

To change your name just edit your profile (valid only for admins). Or did you want to change it in this forum?

I did mean for this forum, but I'd also like to have my name begin with a large H instead of a small h on my own forum. I couldn't convince it to change in my own.

But I did succeed in hiding the test forum. Thanks Podge. Those little training vbideos are quite helpful.

Thanks, Ruirib.

Now, how can I do that in my own forum?

If you are an admin, just edit your profile.

I am the admin, but when I go into the profile edit area, my user name is not in an editable box. I guess there is something I'm doing incorrectly.

Don't edit it from the Profile link at the navigation bar. Either edit from member's asp or view your profile through a link and then edit using the link at the top left of your profile area.

ruirib, I have tried every variation I could think of. I am able to bring up members names to modify, but not my own.

Is members asp what comes up when I click on members at the upper right? That didn't work either. Sorry about not knowing all the acronyms yet.

Here's the easiest way to explain it....

Make sure your logged in.

Find one you your posts. Any post.

Click on your user name, this brings up your profile.

Again, click on your user name. Top left.

You will should be prompted for admin log in.

Voila, you can change it there.

Bobby131313, I did exactly whay you said. My editable profile came up, but my user name area is not editable. It's quite distressing, since it is obviously supposed to be an editable box according to both you and riurib, and I believe both of you. <sigh>

I am at a loss then. I followed those steps exactly on my forum and it worked like a charm.

Sorry.

It would appear there's no way for the super admin to change their name. Workaround: Make someone else super admin, use them to change your name, then change the super admin back.

I seem to remember a dbs script to change it too....

I think it was something along the lines of:
*This has not been tested.... make a backup before using! (You have been warned )
[UPDATE]
MEMBERS
M_NAME#'the new name you want'#M_NAME = 'the old name to change'
[END]

oh, and this would be pasted into the alternate mod setup. Don't forget the backup!
