I am using this mod and would like to restrict the use of creating an event topic. Let me explaine:

I have two categories:
1: Discussion (have 3 forums)

2: Activities (have 1 forum called Common activities)

What i would like to do is that i want the moderator (or a special username) to be able to post an event in "Common activities".

But when a moderator/user is allowed to post an event, he is allowed to post an event in ALL the forums. I do not want that, i want the user only to be able to post an event in the Common activities forum. Today you can see that it says "New topic" and "New event" on all the forums.

Need help please :-).

You can specify which forum you want to allow events to be posted in. I have only one forum specifically set aside for 'calendar events'. To achieve this, when you're logged in as admin or moderator, on the right side of the default.asp screen go into the edit option for whatever forum you want the events to be posted in. In the edit screen for the forum right between the subject title and message, should be a line saying allow events. If you want events allowed for that forum, just check the box. If you dont want events posted in a forum, make sure that the box is not checked.

Hi, and thank you for your answer.
I have done what you say, but i does not seem to have a "allow events" option in the edit screen for the forum. Is there any setting/option that i must set somewhere to get this option available?

Hmmm What version of the snitz forum code and what version of the events calendar mod are you using? I'm on forum 3.4.05 and running the event calendar mod found on snitzbitz here. The first one listed. I do recall that I did have some major problems getting it implemented when I first tried it. Best advice is to go through every file that is calling for changes again carefully. I used a piece of software called Beyond Compare2 the second time around (which you can download a free trial version) and it made all the difference in the world in allowing me to make all the neccessary edits.

In the meantime, I'm going to look through to see if I can see where the 'allow events' option is put into the forum edit screen there. I'm not much of an asp code jockey so hang in there and be patient if others cant help you out before I can.

I have the snitz forum 3.4.04. When it comes to the calendar mod i am not sure where i downloaded it from, but it has the following text in the .wri file:

I think we might be running two different versions of the calendar mod. Although mine is also from Red1, its for forum version 3.4.05. I dont know the differences between the previous forum version that you're running and the older calendar mod. It's possible that the feature to allow events in specific forums may not be present in older versions. I honestly dont know. Do you have 'clean' copies of the files for the calendar mod to compare against your forum files?

By that, I mean that on the download for the 3.4.05 version versions of modified post.asp, default.asp, etc were included and they can be compared against your actual forum files for any changes? If everything seems like its okay, its possible that the ability that you're looking forward wasnt directly included in the older mod. Again, I dont know for sure, because I havent used the older version.

I think I just answered my own questions... I was going back through the 'readme' text for the 3.4.05 version of the mod and saw these revisions for this version which seem to be what you're asking about:

Added F_ALLOWEVENTS field to the Forum table to set if events are allowed in a forum, since people were still having trouble with the text file settings.

Admin page (yay!) to set which forums can allow events. Also added a checkbox to allow events in the forum properties page.

As I said before, I would have no idea how to code any of those changes for an older version of the mod and not sure what would happen if you tried mixing versions of mods and forums. Sorry, but thats about the limit of my knowledge on this. Perhaps some of the folks here with a better understanding of everything can help you out with this.

Thank you so much, you have been very helpful! I will try to compare the event mods versions against each other to see if i might be able to implement the changes in the old version also.

If anyone knows if this is possible, or have done this, - please let me know.

At downloadsite snitzbitz the calendar mod states "Forum version 3.4." Does this mean it will be fully compatible snitz version 3.4.04 ?

Does this mean that i actually can upgrade my old calender mod to the newest calendar mod version 11 (Red1's Event Calendar Mod)to be used with snitz version 3.4.04 ?

Anyone has any experience - suggestions ?
