| I am looking to include a javascript into the forum that would disable to right click and control C functions. Where would I put this script in the asp files to prevent this occurance? |

Please, please, please do not even consider doing this. By forcing a visitor's browser and/or system to behave in any particular way is a sure fire way to frustrate and possibly scare them, sending them fleeing from your site never to return. If somebody wants your text or images that badly, there are many, many other ways of retrieving them without using the context menu.

| Let me be the decision maker on that one. If it scares traffic away I will find another methodology but I came to snitz for help and this is not an alternative route nor the answer to my question. I realy need to implement on my asp gallery more than the forum and I was hoping this would point me in the right direction there. There is no sure fire way to stop it but I can deter it a little. All I want is to stop the common way. At least point me into the right direction on the asp file. I am going to do this regardless and see if I get any negative feedback. My site is ran by the users not me. We are a democracy. |

More often than not something like this is going to hit the "Law of Unintended Consequences". Since websites are greatly affected by reputation, and a good reputation is easier to damage than earn back (ask Gateway), you might want to think very carefully on this one before you do it. If you are having problems with people taking images, more often than not they are not your "casual stealer" and will take it by another means. In the mean time you'll have broken other features that people use (guy's like me tend to open images from galleries in a new window by right-clicking and selecting open in new window or open in new tab depending on the browser).
Having said that, if you are determined to add that feature anyway I'd put whatever is needed in an include and just include it in the specific files that require it. You should be able to find a good, reliable script over at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ or at http://www.planet-source-code.com
I'm not aware of any specific ones, but I've used both theses sites for other scripts with good results (though planet source code is a little hit-or-miss).
I think Shaggy was just trying to warn you that its bad form to mess with the browser like that. I tend to agree with this, but that is a separate discussion for a different time.
(In a moment of afterthought, have you considered floating the question first, before you do all that work to see if its something they are ok with? - obvously assuming that you explained in clear, non-technical terms, etc.) |

What if I were to modify the img source code for the image tag to include this html tag, GALLERYIMG="no"
Also would it still function in Firefox? |

| I sort of did it a different way. I made a table the size of the image and set it to the background. Then inside the image I put an image tag with a transparent image. So if anyone tries to click the background they get the transparent image. |

Still easy enough to extract the image URI from your source, Zuel. Or some browsers offer you a context menu entry to allow you to view or save a background image.

I can grab any image I want.
[1]. View source
[2]. Select All and paste into an editor. Shows code.
[3]. No controls? ctrl + n to pop into a new window. Controls visable.
[4]. View source locked both controls and right click, save the webpage do your desktop. Lock overridden.
[5]. Printscreen and crop the image with photoshop. (less then 1 min)
[6]. Webtools displays all images within the select page in its own gui.
Unfortunately there are plenty of ways to grab an image. The only place I haven't been successful in grabbing an image is from MSN Messenger. Microsoft developed a window where nothing seems to work. Which is great, I hope to see that feature in a future version of IE. |

Did you read the links I posted? They go into detail about certain paths to block this and although there is always a work around, it does make it difficult. Some browsers are even blocked or if you have java disabled it wont display the page. I dont know if those work arounds are effective because I dont have all the scripts embedded yet but I might give you a shout when I do to test test test.
I am still trying to find a way to plug a script into the asp gallery to disable the right click. I applied a script to take out the browser tool bar totally but the link was failing with firefox so I had to take it out. **** the man! |

| Something I'd consider, since you are your own host, is to use an ASP component to simply write a copyright notice onto your images. The one I found (it's free) is Persits.Jpeg. I can't find the link for it now, but it shouldn't be hard to come by. |
