I hired a chef to come to the house, as well as a live pianist. Then while they were preparing, I picked my wife up from work, took her to the mall, and let her pick out a new outfit, complete with shoes. Then, for some odd reason, before we "went out" to dinner, I made some excuse why we needed to swing back by the house. She was stunned when she walked in to the live music and awesome smells of a five course dinner. It wasn't that expensive, and it made an impression she will never forget.
Trouble is...how do you ever top it?!?!?!? |

My wife works in jewelry and the stuff that she likes is outside of the means of my bank account and she knows that. I usually plan an evening out or a few days away along the lines of prdq's suggestion at a b&b or rustic cabin up in the mountains. Our anniversary is early December when she's pretty unlikely to get any time off because of the Christmas retail season, so we usually try to get away for a 3 day weekend in January so that she can decompress. That does her more good then a 5 carat diamond at that point and if we get snowed in an extra day, all the better.
It all comes down to knowing your wife and knowing what makes her tick and what she values most. It can be anything really as long as it shows that you thought about her and not just thought about her doing laundry.... |

Sorry about not following up on the thread guys.
We went back home to the States during the holidays and I'm just catching up.
I wound up taking her out for a very nice dinner and giving her a Bulgari watch. Youch! I'm glad that this stuff doesn't come around often.

He gets the tranquility of not being constantly nagged for 11 months about how he ruined her anniversary and that is priceless. |
