And I was wondering what mods you suggest. |

It depends on what sort of forum/community you have. You might want to consider Avatars and Private Messages, at least; in my opinion those are nice additions to any forum. |

Active Users Avatars Private Messages
.. the big three, then maybe :
Site Integration Photo Album etc...
It all depends on what you and your members want. |

I guess the ultimate answer is "it depends"
All things being equal, I like to make sure all my forums have the Custom Policy, FAQ Manager, and Forum Rules. The rest I add on an as-needed basis.
Just my 2c. |

One piece of advice... Several years ago, when I set up my first Snitz forum, I was enamored with all the "cool mods" and WAY overdid it. I had mods running out my ears, so you are already very wise in that you are asking.
Most of them have demos. Determine the need you have, and then view the demo to see if it really does what you want.
I certainly agree with the above posts:
- Private Messages are a must.
- Avatars can be fun.
- Active users is helpful if you want live chat.
- I find the single sign on to be fantastic so the user can log into the site and forums all at once. There is also an Admin quick logon which is great. When you are logged in as the an administrative user, it does not require you to log in again to the Admin section.
- Spell checker is also nice. It would be WAY cool if it also allowed you to correct, but even pointing out the errors is helpful.
- Related to another post here, there is a Password Reset mod that I like.

Why not start clean (and fast! The core Snitz codebase is pretty lean), and add frills as you think you need them - remember each frill will slow down your forum to a degree.
Me, I'm a 'Content over Chrome' guy. If the whizzbang outweighs the value of the content, I'll happily go elsewhere, especially if the site is slow! |

Chalk these up to "Things I've learned the hard way":
* Make frequent backups * Do your mods one at a time and test ruthlessly before moving on to the next. * Make frequent backups * Work methodically through the instructions, re-reading several times. * Make frequent backups * Ask for help if you run into any snags * Make frequent backups * Sometimes you may need to 'just walk away' for an hour and then get back to it * Make frequent backups
Did I mention "Make frequent backups"? |

Private messages would definitely be my number 1 suggestion. But be careful it might become too popular so don't forget to clean the old PM . limiting the number of allowed PM to a reasonable number is a good idea, because some of my members tend to use PM almost like a chatroom! |

Where does one get live chat? Snitzbitz doesn't seem to carry it. |
My Completed Mods: News Mod | Zuel's Avatar Add-on In Development: World of Warcraft Member Roster | [C# Based Forum]
Note - I may take a few days to recieve your email. Hotmail filters all new emails as junk. Would be best to post all questions, concerns in a forum topic to catch my immediate attention. This way others can assist and also correct any similar mistakes.
