No, only plain text mails.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Simce a lot of people are now disabling HTML e-mails in their clients, I would stick with plain-text anyway to make sure that everybody gets what they are supposed to get. |

Any idea why my webmail client (SmarterMail Enterprise Edition 3.3.2369) sees forum subscription emails as html emails (thus showing quotes properly formatted, hr's, etc) when they are actually plain text emails??? |

Unless you've modified your subscription e-mails they should not contain any HTML tags such as <hr /> (don't know what you mean by "showing quotes properly formatted").

Sorry! I forgot my current setup isn't the default. My forum's subscription emails contain the post or reply.
So, in Outlook, the emails will simply have all the reply or post text with no formatting. Example:
<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"><i>Originally posted by McN</i> <br />etc etc <br /><br /><hr noshade size="1">etc<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">etc etc <br /><br /><hr noshade size="1">etc
In my webmail, the emails appear just like they do on the message board (with formatting). Did that clear it up? I can post screenshots if need be. |

That's a bug in your webmail script not filtering out < and > in non-HTML e-mails. What e-mail component are you using on your forum?

Please note that I do not recommend you take this approach as HTML mails sent through an automated script increase the chances of those mails ending up in the recipient's junk mail folder. However, if that's a risk you're willing to take, you can send HTML mails out through ASPEmail by finding the following on line 61 of inc_mail.asp and adding the line in green:
objNewMail.Subject = strSubject objNewMail.Body = strMessage objNewMail.IsHTML = true

Haha try explaining to a marketing department that 7-bit ASCII is superior - maybe get all the pack-shots converted to asciiart |

Actually, now that MS replaced the HTML rendering engine in Outlook (Outlook 2007 now uses the Word HTML rendering engine, not IE like it did in the past) the limitations in what will most likely be a fairly widely distributed e-mail client make me glad that I never left plain text. This is a new consideration in addition to my earlier comment about those who just turn off HTML e-mail support. |

Thanks Shaggy. I'll take your advice into consideration. Mostly, its for my own benefit since I one of the few that gets email notifications. |
