I won't email him, but I'll try to put it somewhere he can download it. You're not talking about the Access DB, wii, are you?

wii, I will delete the DB as per your request, no worries .

only 100Mb , mmm, I wouldn't expect a db of that size to have too many issues even with very long topics.

Frankly, I think it may be hard to achieve that. Just the query that retrieves the replies, with all the indexes recommended by the tunning wizard took more than a sec (no cursors in use).

by more than a second, how much more do you mean, 1 second to return >100 pages of replies is actually pretty quick, when you think about how much info is being retrieved. how long does the forum take to display these results ? however it may still be quicker to pull replies into a seperate table before linking them with the members table to extract that info, rather than doing it all in one query, I'm not saying it definately will, but it certainly merits some investigation to see.

I will send a link to the DB files in a few minutes, Huw. It took about 1.1 secs to retrieve what i think is about 15000 replies (not sure about it now). I agree that it is not much, but Access does it faster .

As I posted before, in my own computer, it took about 1.2-1.4 secs for the forum to generate the page.

4 to 5 seconds on the long topics, everything else is really fast 0.5 - 0.9 or so.

Btw, I made a test with a clean install of Snitz (no MODS) on another server, and imported just the tables that are needed to show the topics, forums and posts - and itīs still the same. Short topics load on average 0.5 - long topics 4-5 seconds, even longer sometimes.

That's what I'd expect. It's a server issue, not a code issue, I told you .

Perhaps this is a good example ; A topic at SnowMobileFanatics with 688 replies.
Loads in less than 2 seconds for me (no parsingtimer on the page though).
Runs on SQL.
