Hey folkz, i have a couple of generic questions. My boss wants me to find out if there are any conferences i need to attend to remain current and aware of NEW trends. Can someone tell me what they do?
Secondly, I just took over a gargantuan site from someone. They never bothered to map out the site. Is there an app we can but that would do something like follow every link withink every page and tell me where they go, what the page Title is, etc.
Thirdly, I can't for the life of me get proper statistics from our Host. There MUST be a Statistics package out there we could buy that would allow me to know who clicked, from where, how often, etc..
Thankx folkz, it's really appreciated! |

As for statistics, I'd check out AWStats. I believe you can get it over at Sourceforge. It's what my host uses, and it is extremely detailed.
For the rest, I honestly don't know. Good luck. |

to map the site, you could try some of the visual studio tools, or http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=website+mapping+tool&meta= gives a few more options. Never tried any of them (but use a glorious links checker called XENU.exe, which is free afaik - look it up!)
as for conferences, depends on your technology preferences. TechED/PDC is a big annual Microsoft love-in, always worth attending. Microsoft also run reams of free half/one day sessions designed to do just what you want - orient you to forthcoming technologies and a bit of marketing spin too. http://www.microsoft.com/events/default.mspx
In terms of forthcoming technologies, there's a raft coming through from MS - Vista will go into beta sometime soon (so you can test your apps with it), IE7 will be an important one to test against too. SQL Server 2005 is due RSN, and Visual Studio 2005 is used internally now, but there's going to be a big push on some of the team-stuff with Visual Studio higher level editions.
Hope this gives you some ideas |
