Just upgraded to the latest version of MySQL by following the instructions here and now I'm getting an "Access Denied" error when trying to connect to the database in ASP. I think I may need to recreate username & password I was using but don't know where to do this. UPDATE: Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and now I can't start the MySQL service (Error 1067: The service terminated unexpectedly).

Unfortunately the login that apparently got wiped/diabled during the first attempted install was the login I used to get into MySQL Admin. Tried reinstalling again, selecteing a different name for the service when configuring but still the same problem.

Thanks Gremlin, tried that but am still unable to login to MySQL Admin or Explorer or start the MySQL service.
UPDATE: Managed to get the service started by switching the configuration from Multifunctional Database to Non-Transactional Database (which doesn't sound right to me) but now the configuration wizard gives the follwing error when trying to apply the security settings and I'm told localhost is not allowed to connect to the MySQL server when trying to connect through ASP.quote: The security settings could not be applied to the database because the connection has failed with the following error.
Error Nr. 1130 Host 'localhost' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server
If a personal firewall is running on your machine, please make sure you have opened the TCP port 3306 for connections. [done] Otherwise no client application can connect to the server. After you have opened the port please press [Retry] to apply the security settings. [done]
If you are re-installing after you just installed the MySQL server please note that the data directory was not removed automatically. Therefore the old password from your last installation is still needed to connect to the server. In this case, please select skip now and re-run the Configuration Wizard from the start menu. [done]
UPDATE: Tried resetting the password according to the link above and now I'm back to where I was, unable to start the service but still getting the error about localhost not being allowed to connect when I try to open the database with ASP. I am completely lost here, trying things I find with Google blindly, probably making things worse.

Thanks, man. Yeah, I've tried your initial suggestion but I can't login to MySQL Admin as root nor the other user. And, yeah, we'll be grabbing another copy of the database from the current server when we make the final move but there's a copy of the "data" folder as it was before I started tinkering on the dektop, if need be.

'Ray, managed to fix the new issues after an extensive days Googling. For anybody else who may receive an error telling them to upgrade their MySQL client after upgrading to MySQL 4.1, there's two things you need to do:
01. Make sure you have the latest MyODBC Connector installed.
02. Follow the instructions in the link Gremlin posted above but, instead of passing your desired password through the PASSWORD function, pass it through old_PASSWORD.
And the rest of my problems were soplved simply by using MySQL Admin to give the user I was trying to connect as full permissions on the relevant database.
