I have downloaded the Snitz program, and now have a lot of file names to look at. How do I convert this to a working program, with an appearance a user would be able to interact with? |

IIS -> internet information services. It is a part of the professional version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. When you want to play with asp scripts and make connections to a database you will need it. When you have install this software you can play (run) this forum.
ICT-Helpdesk is a portal based on a snitz forum. It is a support site for office users (dutch). At this moment there is no action because I ame recovering from a cerebral infarction. |

I'm very sorry about your health problem.
I'm getting buried up to my neck. In reading the ReadMe file, I got the file unzipped, and am stuck here --
The snitz_forums_2000.mdb file is an Access 2000 database. If you plan to use Access as your database, extract the snitz_forums_2000.mdb file out of the sf2k_v34_05.zip.
Open the config.asp file in your favorite text editor. WARNING: DO NOT USE FRONTPAGE TO DO THIS. TIP: A text editor that displays line numbers can be helpful when modifying ASP files. We suggest a free text editor called Araneae. You can use your favorite search engine to search for it.
***** I don't know what Access 2000 database is, and I don't know how to extract the Snitz Forums 2000 mdb. I don't know what to do with a text editor (would a word processor do?) or how or why to modify ASP files.
This is probably too much to hope for, but could I upload the whole thing to my website, and expect something to start working?

Go to this link: http://www.ornj.net/software/araneae/ and download Araneae. It is a free text editor, and what most people use to edit web files. You need to modify the file called config.asp to point to the place on your webserver that the database will be.
If you unzipped everything, the Access Database is already extracted. This is the file that will hold all of the data for your forum.
If you need help installing the forum on your webserver, email me with the link in my profile and we can discuss it. |
