Hi there, I haven't been able to find an answer to this so apologies if I should have posted somewhere else and please re-direct me.
I have a question on archiving vs creating a new forum.
I ran a 3 week forum last year and about to do it again. I have considered archiving last year's topics. If I do this, would they no longer appear how would I display them again if I need to refer to them?

I then thought that it might be easier to just hide last year's topics and that way I can keep the same member list as last year. Will this throw my statistics out? As in will it keep records on number of posts in new (publicly viewable) topics only.

If I decide to create a new forum, do I need to do the whole install process again or how does this work? Is there a new forum button somewhere What do other people usually do. Thanks.

When you archive a forum it dissappears from the main view, but an icon appears that gives you the option of looking at the archived posts from each forum (i think it is a regular forum icon with an A on it). That is the easiest way to do it.

I think nonregistered users can see them, and if so you might want to browse my forum (in sig), archived posts are accessed through the black icons.

As Ranko said, the archives are accessible via an icon next to the relevant forum on default.asp. These topics will be read-only (no replies allowed) but you can still link to them form other posts as you would a normal topic.

If you do not wish to retain the old posts, you can simply empty the TOPICS and REPLY tables and update forums counts so your forum statistics only show this year's posts while retaining your MEMBERS table, settings, etc.. You can always keep a backup copy for your own reference, if you want.

If you want to move last year's topics to a hidden forum that can only be accessed by selected members, as ar as I know, they will not be counted in the forum statistics if a member does not have access to that forum but you may want to get further confirmation on that from someone who uses private forums.
