Oh no no... Don't remove that. Just put in a description of your site above all the content.
Right under the scrolling banner would do. Maybe you can add an extra row underneath it and add a small blurb about the site.
The Google bot will usually only index the first paragraph on a page. Only if the text too small in length will it go on to the next paragraph. So if you have a decent size, ( 5 - 10 words will do nicely ) then you're all set.
Actually that'll not only help the Google bot, but us humans as well |

I don't know if Google ignores text with a negative indent value, but if not, you can put a desciptiive paragraph up high on the page and wrap it in <div style="text-indent: -9999px;">blah</div>
Crawlers will see the text, but any CSS aware browser should render it outside of the screen. That way, it won't disrupte your layout. |

Thanks guys, I've put -gary's div just after the scroller and put the 'secure server login' text back in. Cheers. |

Just take care when trying to 'hide' text from crawlers - some search engines will consider this 'trying to cheat' and so DEMOTE you in the listings (as with white text on white, ultra-mini-text, etc).
If you think about it, it is in the engines best interests to sandbox/exclude sites trying to be 'too clever' as these tricks were/are used by pr0n/gambling/whatever companies to try to get free click-through revenue, spoiling the effectiveness of the engine, so losing market share. This is exactly why META-tags are now worthless! |

If you want, maybe I can redirect all my 404 traffic to your site? I get a ton of those. |

Slightly off-topic but take a look at that site using Firefox; it's a bit all over the place.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Thanks Shaggy, I ran a validator last week that suggested putting a closing / at the end of each img tag. Didn't check Firefox afterwards. Ok now. |

Try preceding the / with a space to get around this. I.E. <img [properties] />

Oh yes. Netscape and older browsers go nuts for some reason without that extra space.
BTW... All my 404's are going to your site now |
