My entire portal (Image) is placed in a subdirectory named forum and visitors to my site arrives to www.avgifter.com (index.asp) and then need to clic the link www.avgifter.com/forum/portal_content.asp to enter. My provider tells me that they cannot make settings for starting from a page in a subfolder.
Do I need to lift all files from my subdirectory to root if I want to avoid a redirect which increases time to arrive? If not, what is my alternative? (have used search without sucess, could be because I do not know what to search)
Yes, I could use a redirect but is it the most efficient way? Is there any disadvantages with "lifting" all files from the subfolder forum to root? I suppose I have to change some path-lines but more than that?
There is no disadvantage that I know of, if you moved everything to the root folder (up one folder, that is), other than causing some confusion with your users that may already have links direct to your pages stored in their favorites.
thx, ruirib. My new version has been running for a very short while so I do not believe that the favorites-disadvantge should stop me moving everything to root folder.
