After finally getting the forum installed and colour scheme set, i discovered that the email setup on my forum doesnt work. The forum is located at www.firstholywood.co.uk/forum and it runs on an an access database. It is hosted at oneandone.co.uk and i have the following types of email types available:-

ASPmail
ASPQmail
SA-SMTP mail
CDOSYS

the mail server address i believe to be auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk and i set up an email address in the options as forum@firstholywood.co.uk and the only other instructions the host gives is Please note: To send e-mail using the SMTP-Server, activate SMTP Authentification. Please do not use the Secure Password Authentification (SPA) option. Optionally, port 587 can also be used in addition to the default port RRFC 2476. and how to set up for use in other email programs.

From reading other topics on this forum i tried to configure it up to work with CDOSYS but i couldnt get anythin through when i went to profile and tried to email myself, nothin got through to my inbox and nothin gets through to other members email addresses. I also tried changing the on error command to go to 0 and it produced an error message on line 148. Anyway, i was wonderin how can i get this to work with any of the above types, i am interested in hearing how to get it to work with ASPmail or CDOSYS. Any help would be most appreciated.

From what you posted, looks like you need to use SMTP authentication. I'm not that familiar with it, but I think you need to use CDOSYS. Have a look here: http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=58220#318026

Just use the 3 lines that deal with authentication:

Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate") = cdoBasic
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername") = "you@gmail.com"
Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword") = "password"

Read the whole post so that you can undertstand what to do.

I tired again, adding all the pieces of code and the line goto 0 if error and got the following error report

error '8004020f'
/Forum/inc_mail.asp, line 142

LIne 142: objNewMail.Send

The email address i assumed was the username but it also has a number of m34488756-1, and i have tried that as a username too. and it gives the same error message. I dont know quite what is going wrong. I do have a gmail account that i maybe could use, but i tried the code on the other thread u left there and still had no luck, did that person have any luck in getting that to work? The other thing is do the values of username and password need to be in " of can then be left out? Thanks if anyone can help.
